Associate Teaching Professor of Linguistics at UC San Diego

Directions to UCSD Linguistics
UCSD Linguistics is on the UC San Diego Campus, in the ‘Muir College’ area, in the Applied Physics and Mathematics Building (AP&M). The generic ‘9500 Gilman Dr. La Jolla, CA 92093’ address is completely useless for navigation, and is shared by the entire campus. So, you’ll need to be more specific when using navigation tools.
- Find AP&M on OpenStreetMaps
- Find AP&M on Google Maps
- Find AP&M on Apple Maps
- For the GPS enthusiasts, 32°52’44.0”N 117°14’27.8”W
- To get to the best entrance, VQH5+HH4 San Diego, California
How to get to Campus
If taking the Blue Line trolley, get off at the UC San Diego Main Campus stop, and proceed towards AP&M. Plan on a 15-20 minute walk from the Trolley Station.
If driving, attempt to park in a visitor space at the Scholars (closest) or Pangaea or Hopkins Parking Structures. You will be expected to pay for parking using a paystation or the ParkMobile app.
- If you’re attempting to park on campus, leave extra time for parking, as it’s very possible to spend 30-45 minutes looking for a spot and you may need to try multiple structures
- In practice, any of the parking structures west of I-5 are walkable to Linguistics within around 20 minutes, some are just a longer and more uphill walk
There’s a continuous bike lane along Gilman Drive coming from the South which connects to the Rose Canyon Bikeway
- You’ll be in an unprotected lane next to 50+ mph traffic, so this ride is not for the faint of heart
- There’s ample bike parking on the south side of AP&M
Ridesharing should be able to use ‘Applied Physics and Mathematics UCSD’ or ‘UCSD Faculty Club’ as dropoff destinations, and there’s a designated pickup spot not far from AP&M
Finding the building
AP&M is a large brutalist building which is on the edge of a large green field and park area containing, among other things, the bird-like ‘Sun God’ statue standing on an arch. AP&M looks like this:
Linguistics is in the center, 7-story building rather than the Annex to the North. If you’re facing the building from the field (facing west), you’ll want enter through the doors under the walkways on either side (North and South sides). Both doors lead into a lobby with stairwell access and two elevators, as well as the UCSD IT Service Desk.
Finding Linguistics Rooms and Will’s Office
- To find Linguistics Faculty offices, go to
the fourth floor of AP&M, turn left as you exit the
elevator, and then walk through the double doors to find a loop of
offices containing most of the Linguistics Faculty
- Faculty Mailboxes are in a room directly across from my office, in the center of the loop
- AP&M 4218 is also inside this main loop, with entrances to either side, about halfway down the loop
- Will’s office is AP&M 4151, at the far end of the left side of the loop.
- To get to AP&M 4301, our main auditorium and teaching room, go to the fourth floor, and turn right leaving the elevator, 4301 will be the first door on the right
- To get to the UCSD Phonetics Lab, go to the fourth floor, and turn right leaving the elevator, the lab will be on your left, around 50 feet down the hallway, room AP&M 4432.
- To get to the Linguistics Library, go to the third floor, and turn right leaving the elevator, it’ll be on your left around 50 feet down the hallway
